The building complex of “Villa Lituania,” located in Piazza Asti and therefore part of Rome’s historical fabric, consists of two buildings intended for tourist accommodation activities. The historic building, which characterizes the square along with its twin structure hosting the Lithuanian College, dates back to 1909 and features forms reflecting the eclectic architectural taste of the time, with a tower and crenellated cornice reminiscent of a fortified palace, biforate windows, iconographic reliefs, and coats of arms. It has a load-bearing masonry structure with vaulted ceilings on the ground floor and steel beam and brick vault floors on the upper levels. In addition to the guest rooms, it houses common services, a restaurant open to the public with a kitchen, a reception area, a religious chapel, and a conference hall.
The other building, constructed in 1967 and characterized by a unidirectional reinforced concrete frame and brick-concrete floors, consists of a basement level housing storage rooms and technical facilities, and four above-ground floors where the guest rooms are distributed.
The interventions involved the complete redevelopment of the real estate complex, including the functional adaptation of spaces according to the distribution needs of the hospitality activity, fire safety compliance, energy efficiency improvement through the renovation of thermal and air conditioning systems and insulation of heat-dispersing horizontal surfaces, refurbishment of electrical and special systems, conservative restoration of the facades, and seismic upgrading of the historic building’s structures.
