Faculty of Chemistry (CU014) – Sapienza University of Rome

The CU014 building, home to the Faculty of Chemistry, was constructed between 1933 and 1935 and features a reinforced concrete frame structure.

Even in the original design phase, provisions were made for the possibility of expanding the building, both in its foundation structures and its vertical load-bearing elements. In fact, the building underwent two height extensions: the first during 1938-1939, and the second in the 1960s. In the latter case, the new extension structures were made of steel framework elements.

Following an initial evaluation of the safety levels, both static and seismic, the final and executive project for the structural adjustment of the existing structures was developed, based on the guidelines set forth in the previous technical and economic feasibility study prepared in collaboration with other professionals
